There was always a gap between research and clinical science. The translation of the revolutionary discoveries in genetics, brain imaging, molecular , chemistry and biology….etc, to clinical work and for the benefit of the mental patient is becoming evident. The role of environmental diversity on gene expression without affecting the sequence of DNA i.e. epigenetics had an impact on the aetiology and outcome of psychiatric disorders.All our pharmacotherapy for the last 50 years and drugs treating mental disorders were focused on Neurotransmitters , but now the science is targeting towards other receptors and peptides affecting signaling and transduction e.g. NMDA, glutamate, glucocorticoids….etc. The discovery that so many psychiatric disorders have their neural circuits e.g. Schizophrenia , CCTCC, cortico- cerellar- thalamic- cortical- circuit and OCD Cortico- Striato – Cortical- Circuit, also the cognitive dysfunction, and mood disorders…..etc. The future psychiatrists need the knowledge not only of sociopsychological approach but on neuroscientific basis. The psychiatrist must be first and foremost and, at the times, a physician .. in fact psychiatry is neurology without physical signs and calls for diagnostic virtuosity of the highest order. The psychiatrist should not only first be a physician but ideally a highest kind of a physician. Psychiatry is the most artistic of the sciences and the most scientific of the arts Welcome to this important scientific event where Egyptian , Arab and foreign psychiatrists can assimilate the recent revolution in clinical psychiatry sciences.
